A little about me.

So I work at a popular betting shop. It is one of the most boring jobs ever. Money is always a bonus, so I stick with it. Work isn't something I came here to write about; but working at the shop is definitely not what I want to do when I'm I "grow up".

I have no idea what I plan to do with my future anymore. I used to be so certain and sure that I was going to graduate from uni and go straight into teaching. Now I think I want to do something else first, but I'm not even sure I want to be a teacher eventually anymore.

This all started in April when I broke my leg. I was sat at home with my leg in the biggest cast I have ever seen thinking "Christ, in September I have to grow up! Am I ready for this?" Meanwhile I was emailing my auntie in Australia who suggested I should come and visit; and thus my gap year was born!

I quite miss the uni lifestyle, but working and having not a lot else to worry about has its own benefits I imagine. I'm starting up a primary school placement which should help me getting back into the swing of all things educational. I just hope it is all its cracked up to be!

A friend of mine once said "those who can't, teach" and I suppose that has slightly stuck with me. I have always wanted to do some kind of writing, but the confidence to go for these kind of jobs has totally escaped me. In my role as deputy editor of my university's SU magazine I have had the best time ever, I enjoy the entire process, from writer's block, to over looking design and layout issues with the rest of the trusty team.

But in the real world, these jobs are few and far between... Christ.

A lot of my friends have recently graduated with Journalism degrees and only two of perhaps 10(ish) have managed to gain employment in the field they studied for three years. One friend in particular has applied for a job with over one hundred applicants. Those are like, the worst odds ever. I don't really fancy my chances.

And believe me from working in the betting shop I can tell you how rarely those ones win!

Welcome, etc.

Hello,
Thanks for stopping by my blog, I really appreciate it. I won't bore you with a post about why I'm writing this as I guess it will become abundantly clear when I get into the swing of it!

I will tell you this though; I totally love the buzz from giving someone good advice.

Even if I can't take it myself.

Goodnight x
